The Stones for Better Health

Through the ages, gemstones have been used for healing. Many varieties
are believed to have their own unique properties and vibrations
that could protect the wearer or even cure specific illnesses.
Today, gemstones are still used in holistic medicine in practices
that are now termed "New Age." Even if you are more traditional
in your beliefs, you will certainly feel good when wearing them,
even if only by the power of their beauty!
AMBER, a clear yellow or orange ancient petrified resin, is a powerful
healing stone believed to store a large amount of cosmic and organic
energy. In ancient times, amber was sometimes ground into a powder
and mixed with honey or oil of roses to combat various physical
problems. It was thought to nullify germs and infections and have
the power to disinfect. Worn around the neck, amber also is thought
to provide detoxification and protection from radiation, especially
x-rays, sun, computers, airports, planes and others' negative
energies. Amber is most used today to lift the spirits, as it
is reputed to affect mental clarity, balance of moods and stomach
anxiety.
CITRINE is an all-purpose healing stone with a wide range of rumored
medicinal powers. It supposedly encourages tremendous healing
on the emotional and mental levels and serves as a natural relaxant.
The yellow stone correlates to the spleen, kidneys, liver, and
urinary system. Some believe citrine, acting as an aid to the
digestive system, may reduce stomach tension, food disorders and
allergies, as well as eliminate toxins.
JADE's name comes from several cultures' beliefs in the stone's ability
to heal. The Portuguese, who brought jade pieces from their settlement
in Canton, China, called jade piedre de ilharga, or "stone of
the loins," because it was believed to be a strong medicine to
combat kidney trouble. Spanish traders called their jade treasures
piedra de hijada. The word further evolved and became the French
ejada, which finally translated into the English jade. A stone
believed to possess gentle, steady energy, jade is thought to
aid kidney and blood detoxification, as well as protect the lungs,
heart, immune and nervous systems.
